Please see the message below that was sent a few minutes ago to James Carroll (architect) regarding the project that was constructed by Knowlton (about 6 years ago). We need an immediate solution, as this is getting worse. I am happy to forward you photos but those will not load to this platform and the email I had used in the recent past seems to be defunct.
Dear James –
I am contacting you as follow-up from a phone I had with one of your employees about a week ago. I had requested a set of structural plans for the beautiful addition project you designed, and he assured me that those would be delivered to me via email.
The reason for the need is that the main supporting post for our deck is buckling and another post seems to be following suit. I had concerns about that post from the get-go because of the additional weight-bearing load for the upper deck and felt it needed to be of a stronger gauge and had expressed that to our GC but was assured it was fine to weld-on an upper portion to accommodate the upper deck (changed from a roof over the lower porch).
This issue really needs to be addressed immediately, as the situation seems to be worsening. We did already contact Knowlton Construction and their rep assured us that it was structurally fine and replaced the lower part of the post only a few months ago. However, it is not fine, as you can see from the photos below. I am EXTREMELY concerned that the deck is no longer structurally sound and needs to be remedied immediately.
I would like for the same structural engineer that you used to assess it, as was recommended by the City Plans Examiner. (I went there to request a copy of the structural plans and that’s when I learned I needed to attain those from you that calculated the weight. I only have a copy of basic plans.)
